Wetherspoons Real Ale and Cider Festival

Beer reviews: A very small beer festival and a reasonable price

At your local Wetherspoon there is something interesting happening; a very small beer festival and a reasonable price. The beautiful editor of this magazine dragged me to the pub to try a few of them and this is what I thought...

Titanic Fit-Out – a perfect beer to have while you wait for your date!

Beer review at Wetherspoons Real Ale and Cider Festival - Titanic Fit-Out

Beer review:
Titanic Fit-Out.

Titanic, this is a curious beer, not bad but maybe not to everyone’s taste. Under the initial taste of the beer is the zing of citrus under bitter bit smooth aftertaste. Sadly the taste seems to separate and not blend together awfully well. We are of course limited by British pub regulations and this is a mid range alcohol beer, now if you know good beer, stronger tends to mean better, but to be savoured, not binged on! But more of those strong beers next time, the Titanic is not a bad beer and we give it 6 on the scale, which is "have one while your wait for the date, won’t get you drunk, won’t make you want to drink another... but not bad."

Red Rye Riwaka - a good drink if you are looking forward to kissing her…

Beer review at Wetherspoons Real Ale and Cider Festival - Red Rye Riwaka

Beer review:
Red Rye Riwaka.

Red Rye, this was an interesting red beer, which gives you an initial dash of lime in the mouth, which disappears quickly and is replaced by a malty and hop after taste. Sadly the flavour goes quickly and leaves the mouth dry with a nice syrupy taste. However if you like bitter this is a drink for you, if not trot on! We give this a 7, "one for road or more, a good drink if you are looking forward to kissing her… and she will taste better!"

Long Dark Nights

Beer review at Wetherspoons Real Ale and Cider Festival - Long Dark Nights

Beer review:
Long Dark Nights.

Long Dark Nights, a lovely beer which is a dark and tasty beer yet light on the palate with a heavy dash of lime on top followed by a blackcurrant flavour which leaves a nice taste in the mouth. This is a truly drinkable beer, which will cross over well to lager drinkers; this beer has a nice fade and blend of flavours. On the 'beers of love' scale this is an 8 out of 10. An eight is a "happily drink it all night and do not leave it alone."

Wells Gold - How to be nice about cat’s piss…

Wells Gold - mineral water with a dash of lemon and a bit of booze. Very light but no real flavour, it is literally like mineral water, worth a four out of ten, probably good if you are into your health. Chances are you could run a marathon with this in you.

Brewster's American Chopper – sticky stuff…

Beer review at Wetherspoons Real Ale and Cider Festival - Brewster's American Chopper

Beer review: Brewster's American Chopper.

Brewster, this is a glorious overload of flavours on the pallet, at first it is a bit too much but then you mouth settles down. After a while it delivers a whole new level of satisfaction. This beer has a lovely sticky aftertaste, like a sticky toffee pudding in the mouth! This is a clear 8 on the scale, better than a night with Liz Hurley... and cheaper as well (-An opinion of the author of this review and not necessarily of RetoxMagazine.com).

Kalamazoo - a taste you will savoir for a lifetime!

Kalamazoo, American dark still beer, very unique, it has a wonderful biscuit taste to it, has a full rich body but still. Kalamazoo has a long drawn out after taste and it’s heavy nature makes it an excellent ale for a cold winters night, but it could do with being a bit spicier. This is a special ale which will never attract a lager drinker, but it is one for someone that wants something unique and pure. I would give this a 9 out of 10 - it’s unique, mysterious and a taste you will savoir in your mouth for a lifetime.
