Fling your phone and become a champion!

UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships

UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships

Watch out ya’ll as the new iPhone 4 flies across the field! A strong 80m throw and there, at the end of the pitch it plunges to the ground with no one to catch it! Ouch, what a painful thought!

Good. Now that we have your attention, lets talk truth. With the new Apple store - apparently the largest Apple store in the world - having launched in London’s Covent Garden earlier this month, the new iPhone 4s were safely awaiting their new owners in the new Apple store’s security laced storage rooms. Despite the iPhone 4 still continuing to heavily linger at the top of many shopping wish lists, the serial i-fans suffering from a severe magnetic pull towards the new iPhone would have already made their purchases, subsequently engaging themselves in continuous fingerprinting of their new vibrant high-res retina display screens.

While the new proud owners of iPhone 4s were getting busy kneading their new phones, 8th Day UK had a different idea all together! - The UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships!

Indeed, along with the Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling in Gloucester, the UK Air Guitar Championships, and the first-ever Baller Strip Poker Championships to be held in London next month, the wacky and wonderful UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships organised by 8th Day UK take the lead in our Retoxifying inventory of amusing events in England.

As the new iPhones laid firmly secured in our pockets the line up of old Samsungs, Nokias, possibly Motorolas and a couple of other UFOs (Unidentified Foreign Objects resembling a phone) got taped up and lined up for the throw.

London Mobile Phone Throwing Championships 2010

We watched in fascination as old mobile phones flew across the field. With this year’s Jeremy Gallop winning the men’s championship with a nice juicy throw of 88.51m and Julia Greens taking the woman’s championship with a 32m throw, we can see the enthusiasm behind the throwing of old phones. All awareness of unnecessary stress and irritation associated with the use of the mobile phone technology gets wiped out through extensive satisfaction of throwing the phone and watching it fly across the field. An excellent anger release approach and doesn’t it feel great?

This is the fun part though - anyone can participate! You register yourself with 8th Day UK, pay a fiver to secure your spot and you’re on your way to becoming the next Jeremy Gallop or Julia Greens. If you have an old mobile phone, now you know exactly what to do with it, throw it! The humble fate of an old mobile phone may flip when it becomes a celebrated instrument turning you into the net year’s UK Mobile Phone Throwing Champion! And if you don’t have an old phone, good on you! You can still participate and get your hands on one of the old phones lined up for you to choose from on the day.

So are we seeing you take part at the next year’s UK Mobile Phone Throwing Championships?
