Nova Chiu’s A/W’13 collection entitled “Wild Edge” was inspired by the work of Nam June Paik’s "The Electronic Super Highway" - a neon map of the United States of America. Nam June Paik, the Korean-American artist worked with a variety of media and is considered to be the first video artist. The Electronic Super Highway project portrays different stories relevant to each state via flashing TV images with boarders outlined in neon.
The collection draws inspiration from various parts of America, including New York and Alaska and references various cultures, including native America and the multi-cultural America. You can further see how well the collection encapsulated the spirit of the urban city skyline at night and wilderness of the rural farmland by using contrasting colours, neon line embroideries, beaded trims, deer and rabbit fur blocks and bold coloured leather and suede.
