This collection instantly got my attention; literally love at first sight through the clean cuts and the strong eye striking shapes. As I looked deeper and did some research on this inimitable collection I discovered that this spring/summer collection found its inspiration from the work of the American avant-garde artist Anthony McCall, who emphases on film, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance. He originally specialised in cinema/project film. Melissa Diamantidi chose to co-operate sculpture and the perception of light to the collection. Don’t worry about the structure and shape of this collection it is very much wearable, if it was possible everything in it would be in my wardrobe!
Straight away after looking at this collection all you can imagine is the sun, a slight breeze in your hair and maybe an ice cream, ITS SUMMER! White is such a subtle yet loud as well as peaceful colour to wear. It reminds me of a calm afternoon walk on the beach in a white dress (image 18), sounds like the movies right? Although this collection may be a little dramatic and a little too special for the beach, regardless I would wear the garments at every opportunity I got, it’s so fab!
The black garments though are so edgy; they make a stamen without even talking; from the cuts of the skirts to the dramatic shoulders and the architectural blazers! The thing that I love the most is that no matter what the shape of the garments are they still show your silhouette and all the important womanly curves. Everything is so fierce and dramatic that you don’t need jewellery or anything to take the attention from the garment; the clothes speak for themselves. A quick lip colour and some heels and you’re good to go. Melissa Diamantidi smashed it. This is my favourite SS13 collection that I have seen so far and the most exclusive! Thank the lord for Melissa!
Melissa Diamantidi, a graduate of the prestigious Parson's School of Design in New York, initially launched her label in 2009. Diamantidi’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection was inspired by the American avant-garde artist Anthony McCall and his sculptural experiments with light and the perception of it.
Clean cut, sculpted and architectural, the avant-garde style pieces were complimented by transparent summery and fresh fabrics. The structured yet wearable collection presented a welcoming contrast between fragile, delicate fabrics and strong, accentuated shapes.
