On Spain’s north-west coast, in the region of Galicia, lies the port city of A Coruña, also known as La Coruña.
In A Coruña you can see the Tower of Hercules that is the only working Roman lighthouse in the world. You can walk along the beautiful harbour. Soak in A Coruña’s unique architecture that includes a street of houses featuring walls of balconies and gallerias of glass, for which the city is sometimes referred to as the city of glass. It also has a few beautiful beaches.
A good way to take in the city is walking or biking along Paseo Maritimo, which takes in the marina, park and beaches.
This is a paradise for seafood fans, known for its brilliant seafood, and especially octopus. 'Pulpo Gallego' is one of the most popular dishes in the region and that is octopus served with smoked paprika and sea salt.
If you want something a little weirder and even more alien looking, try the local goose barnacles that are cooked in a simple way and are apparently very healthy.
If you want to explore a little further out of A Coruña there are some nice beach spots like Serantes, Combouzas and Barrañan. The spectacular Cathedrals beach is also worth the hour and a half drive from A Coruña.
Another beautiful city recommended to visit in Galicia is Santiago de Compostela, about an hour’s drive away.
