Give Those Guys A Metal

The New Designers Part 1 Associate Award Winners

The Business Design Centre in Islington is currently housing the New Designers Exhibition 2013 where last Wednesday, the four, out of three thousand new graduate designers, associate award winners were announced. With some hefty prizes at stake and not to mention the prestigious recognition and thus potential for future opportunities going hand in hand with each of the awards, it would be fair to say that every candidate would have had their designs firmly set on winning.

Grand Designs…. (and in some cases - a grand for your designs!)

An ilLOOMinating performance

The ‘Worshipful Company of Weavers’ prize went to Lily Emma Tennant for her “innovative and beautifully constructed” collection for which she won the £1000 prize.

Material Girl

This year’s ‘Clothworkers’ Company Prize’ was awarded to Marie Stenton along with the £1000 prize money for her work entitled ‘The Sinner’s Prayer.’

A Touch of Glass…

Juli Bolaños-Durman was the winner of this year’s ‘Contemporary Glass Society Prize’ scooping the £250 prize money along with a £100 voucher for warm glass. His work, entitled ‘The Mix and Match Series,’ was described by the judges as an “outstanding presentation.”

A Red Carpet Design

The final award, The Christy’s Carpet Prize, this year went to Kim Norrie for her work ‘Making Spaces in Association with Places.’ Kim took away the £250 prize money owing to her ‘ability to translate development concepts into final pieces’ according to the judges.

Part 2 of the New Designers Exhibition 2013 takes place from Wednesday 3rd July to Saturday 6th July and I am certainly looking forward to a taster of some of the best new and emerging designer talent on offer.
