The Tanks: Art in Action at the Tate Modern

A new way of viewing Art

With a bold name like The Tanks, you cannot reckon with the Tate Modern's new fifteen week festival which showcases a series of projected presentations to the wider public. I experienced the atmosphere of The Tanks when I went to the Tate Modern on Friday 24th August.

Whilst, most people see a painting in a gallery and view it quickly, there were a lot of people who sat and watched the projected presentations for a long period of time. This is because The Tanks show live art, with flashes of many artistic images, as opposed to one image.

Potent images were screened on the video installations which captured the attention of many. A notable one bore the slogan 'CHANGE', a word which has varied connotations for different people.

The London riots were noticeably a focus of some of the video footage. However, the footage served as a reminder of how London has progressed since the riots. London has adjusted to 'CHANGE' just like the banner in the video read.

The Tanks are well worth a visit. They help to define what modern art is, indicating that art is becoming more interactive rather than stilted.
