LGN Young Designers saw five up and coming designers showcase their latest collections: Jin Jooma, Zerrin Akinci, Ghori by Azim Khma, Stency Kidega and Obscure Couture.

These designers revealed some exciting ideas and quirky designs. This particularly was seen in Obscure Couture's collection who had the audience laughing at their 'don't f*** with me' take to fashion. Obscure Couture was fun and edgy with a punkish vibe, showing similarities to the early days of Heatherette and PPQ. The use of unconventionally coloured tartans and shocking pink and green metallics was refreshing following some more formal based designs from earlier designers; it was great to be reminded that fashion should be fun and see the Obscure Couture girls really push their imaginations.

Overall the showcase was a little hit and miss, there were moments of genius and beauty seen mainly in Stency Kidega’s collection. Despite Stency choosing a predominately white colour palette there was incredible detailing, as she showed classic cuts modernized through texture and intricate embellishments. Her final bridal inspired dress was a little similar to an embroidered toilet doily doll, but the ideas were there and she deserves to be credited for her beautiful tailoring and fresh ideas.
Zerin Akinci also showed some promise with small peek-a-boo style cuts on the backs of her figure hugging dresses. However I was a little distracted by the patchwork-style abstract figures that were tacked on, which can only be described as a pigeon-octopus hybrids - I just didn't get it!

The styling at times also did little to improve some of the less impressive designs with tight ponytails creating a Croydon face-lift feel, which was often paired with shell-suit fabrics - not a good look!
In general, it was nice to see what the young designers had to offer and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the new talent.
